IREEM Welcomes Dutch Delegation to Advance Climate Park Development in Indonesia
Jakarta, April 15th, 2025 — IREEM welcomed a visit from Climate Action Plan & Park Systems (CAPPS), an NGO established by Ir. Ron Gerards of Wageningen University, to discuss their ongoing research on the development of Climate Parks in Bali and Jakarta. CAPPS focuses on creating Climate Parks—designated areas that promote nature-based solutions to climate change while engaging local communities, SMEs, and plantation sectors.
The delegation included four university students from the Amsterdam Research Project of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Their visit aimed to explore potential sites for Climate Park development, gain insights into relevant Indonesian regulations and policies, and identify possible collaboration partners. Carbon credits are expected to become a key revenue stream for these parks.
During the meeting, IREEM shared insights on Indonesia’s carbon pricing regulations, particularly regarding the carbon credit mechanism. The discussion also explored how Climate Parks—originally implemented in Belgium—can be adapted to the Indonesian context, with the potential for piloting and eventual replication in other part of Indonesia.
This exchange underscored a shared commitment to advancing climate solutions, fostering eco-friendly infrastructure, and supporting sustainable urban development in Indonesia. IREEM is open and enthusiastic about such collaborative efforts, and looks forward to exploring future partnerships that drive impactful environmental innovation.
