IREEM Through UK PACT Energy Efficiency Program Supports Ministry of Finance and Central Java Provincial Government in Achieving ISO 50001 Certification
Jakarta, June 3th, 2025 – The Institute for Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Management (IREEM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) through the UK PACT Energy Efficiency Program, has successfully guided the Ministry of Finance and the Central Java Provincial Secretariat in obtaining ISO 50001 certification for Energy Management Systems. This milestone marks the first time a provincial-level government building in Indonesia has achieved this prestigious international standard, setting a benchmark for sustainable energy practices in the public sector.
The comprehensive process, implemented from February 2024 to March 2025, involved comprehensive technical assistance, including Energy Management System training for building operators, certification of Energy Managers, and direct mentoring for ISO 50001 implementation. The initiative culminated in a rigorous two-stage audit by the NQA Global Certification Body, verifying compliance with ISO standards. The collaborative effort brought together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance’s and Central Java Provincial Government’s Energy Management Team, IREEM, UK PACT, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) as the overseeing authority.

The ISO 50001 certificate was officially presented by the Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Prof. Eniya Listiani Dewi, to representatives of both institutions during the Closing Phase 1 and Opening Phase 2 ceremony of the UK PACT Project on June 3, 2025, at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta. In her remarks, Director General called for collective action: “I invite all parties to participate in Indonesia's Advanced Energy Efficiency Program by taking concrete steps to reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions - efforts that can begin with even the simplest actions in our respective environments.” This achievement underscores Indonesia’s commitment to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in line with national and global sustainability goals.
Moving forward, this milestone is expected to inspire other government institutions to adopt similar energy management implementation, fostering a culture of efficiency and environmental responsibility.
