Unggung Widhiantoro is an experienced professional in the energy and climate field with over 15 years of expertise driving Indonesia’s low-carbon and sustainable energy transition. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics (Energy major) from Gadjah Mada University and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development from the University of Indonesia.
His portfolio demonstrates a unique combination of strategic insight, technical competence, and policy advocacy, with direct contributions to more than 50 initiatives covering energy efficiency, emissions reduction, renewable energy deployment, and climate change mitigation.
Unggung has a strong track record in designing and implementing high-impact pilot projects—including Indonesia’s first Emissions Trading System (ETS) trial in the power sector, the development of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facilities, and Energy Management System (EnMS) pilots across public and industrial sectors. These initiatives have served as reference models for national replication and policy scaling.
In the realm of energy advocacy, Unggung actively contributes to shaping national and subnational energy conservation and climate policies. He has supported ministries such as MEMR, Bappenas, and MoEF in drafting key regulations, developing technical guidelines, and strengthening institutional capacity. He frequently serves as a trainer, speaker, and facilitator in multi-stakeholder forums, reinforcing his role as a connector across government, industry, and civil society.
His work is backed by deep collaboration with international development partners such as UNDP, USAID, GIZ, UK-PACT, and DANIDA. His contributions have supported the integration of sustainability, inclusivity, and data-driven approaches into Indonesia’s energy planning and climate governance.
Certified as an Energy Auditor, Competency Assessor, and Climate Reality Leader, Unggung continues to play a key role in mainstreaming climate-responsive practices throughout Indonesia’s energy landscape.
